Dyno Tune Thursday – Stage 2 2011 Subaru STi

Here we have a 2011 Subaru STi that was custom tuned by OnPoint Dyno with just a turboback exhaust and a 3-Port EBCS.  With a stock STi making around 228WHP this car made a healthy 50WHP gain from the exhaust and tuning alone.  This is great bang for your buck!

Dyno Tune Thursday – External Wastegate 2013 STi breaks 300WHP

This 2013 Subaru STi made great power with the inclusion of an external wastegate and fueling upgrades to support the increased airflow.  If you’re looking to maximize the power on your turbo car it is important to remove exhaust restriction and have plenty of fuel to meet the demands of the engine.

Dyno Tune Thursday – Simply modded and Health 2005 STi Tune

Below we have a graph from a custom tune on a 2005 Subaru STi that was very healthy and with simple mods made a good amount of power.  Typically we would expect around 275WHP for this car but this one ended up at around 287WHP which is very solid for the older VF39 turbo on this car.  Having a well maintained and healthy engine makes a world of difference when it comes to making power on any platform.

After all the testing we have shown previously we wanted to show one last thing which is the difference between an OTS map and a Custom map on the same car and same mods.  As you can see the custom tune makes more power everywhere and with a healthy margin of safety as well.

Dyno Tune Thursday – Stock vs. Stage 2+ Custom Tune on a 2011 WRX

Below we have the final step that we did with our 2011 Subaru WRX Sedan after testing it Stage 1+.  We installed an Invidia catted Turboback exhaust and a 3-port EBCS and had OnPoint Dyno tune it as they would an average customers car.  As you can see the results are quite impressive making 287WHP and 322WTQ, 60WHP and almost 70 WTQ over stock.  With simple modifications like this you can extract quite a healthy does of performance.

Dyno Tune Thursday – Stock vs. COBB OTS Stage 2+ on a 2011 WRX

Below we have the third step that we did with our 2011 Subaru WRX Sedan after testing it Stage 1+.  We installed an Invidia catted Turboback exhaust and flashed the ECU with the COBB OTS Stage 2+ for AEM Intakes map.  The numbers were quite good although slightly higher in the top end due to boost creep experienced.  Next up we’ll have OnPoint custom tune the set-up and see how much ultimate power we can make.

Dyno Tune Thursday – Stock vs. Stage 1+ on a 2011 WRX

Here’s a back to back comparison dyno on a 2011 Subaru WRX showing the gains of it 100% stock and then after adding the AEM Intake and flashing the Stage 1+ map.  The turbo wasn’t reaching target boost and we didn’t have time to run the HWG map.  We would have expected to see another 20 WTQ and WHP gain if it was hitting target boost which is 17PSI tapering to 12PSI.  The gains down low are great for an intake and off the shelf map.

Here’s an STi with a Blouch DOM 3.0 and built motor that was tuned a few years ago.  It had a TMIC so boost and power was kept lower to prevent heat soak on track.  With a FMIC we’d expect to see a bit over 400WHP on this set-up without heat soaking issues.

Dyno Tune Thursday – Does a stock cat-back restrict power on a turbo car?

Here we had the ability to compare, in relatively close succession, the same car dyno tuned with a 3″ downpipe and stock cat-back and then with a 3″ cat-back.  The results were quite surprising considering we had expected to see maybe 5HP difference at the most.  While this is only one test I believe it goes to show that any restriction in the exhaust of a turbo car will hurt power.  This car gained 15WHP and 15WTQ peak.

Here we have a 2004 WRX that we upgraded with a VF48 from a 2009 STi, STi top mount and STi injectors.  This is a nice upgrade for the 2002-2007 WRX models as the stock TD04 turbo is very small and cannot produce much power.

Those of your with a 2015+ Subaru STi should take a close look at this set-up as the power gains are huge and this pretty much maxes out the stock turbo without adding an alternative fuel like E85.  If you don’t want something as loud as an EWG you can do without this and give up a little power and boost control.
