Bushings can make a big impact for a small out of pocket cost, and this one is no exception.
It firms up the rear end, leads to more precision during driving, reduces dynamic reflection, and removes an undampened spring from your suspension (the old one is a really bouncy rubber).
Like all of our newest generation suspension bushings this one has the following features:
Shore 95A medical grade urethane (this means no heavy metals are used in the manufacture)
Graphite impregnation for self lubrication
Split design for easy install
Stainless steel crush tube milled from solid stock
Installation is simple:
Unbolt trailing arm from rear knuckle and pull arm down out of the way.
Remove stock bushing (heat works nicely for this, but watch where your flames go)
Clean up left over bits of the stock bushing in the bore.
Insert new bushing halves
Insert crush tube (C-clamp works well for this)
Align bolt hole
Insert bolt
Torque to 66 lbs
Some additional tips:
We know they are self lubricating. Believe me, we know, we designed the things. Despite this it’s not going to hurt anything to use a little bit a lube when you assemble, BUT please use a water based lube. Petroleum lube will decay urethane (and rubber too).
Before you completely tighten the bolt put the car down so it’s sitting an normal suspension load. This will eliminate any pre-load in the bushing.
Coffee and a sandwich are always good snacks for when you do installs.
Fitment for this one is pretty crazy since Subaru used the same bushing for YEARS on the cars. Here’s what you get:
Impreza – 2007 and earlier
Forester – 2008 and earlier
Legacy – 1999 and earlier
Ed –
My wagon now feels all-around more responsive after the install. All previous sloppiness has been nicely tightened up. Stiffer than stock for sure, but not harsh. No noticeable increase in noise either.
